The appts. to give a wound cladding of one or more layers continuously to a strand material, such as cables, winds a bandage or ribbon around by a rotary winder as the cable is drawn through from a bobbin. An optical system measures the angle for the reflection of rays from the cable winding(s). An automatic control sets the operation of the take-off motor and the winding rotation as a function of the reflections (7) on the receiver bar, using the angles of light impact at the same bar or the reflecting components.
