Curing UV reactive coating on elongate product

The apparatus cures or hardens an ultra-violet coating applied to an elongate product (3). The apparatus (1) has at least one UV lamp (5). The lamp (5) has a quartz tube (9) through which a flushing gas circulates. The elongate product (3) is passed through this tube (9) to set the UV coating. The gas comprises an inert gas and a defined quantity of oxygen. The proportion of oxygen to inert gas is preferably between 0.1 and 5 per cent by volume. The apparatus preferably includes at least two UV lamps (5,5') arranged one after the other and the product (3) is passed through both lamps (5,5').
