The centrifugal pump for application as a circulating pump has an axial air compressor (8) whose bladed (11') rotor is directly coupled and concentric with the centrifugal impeller (7,13) of the main pump (2). The combined action of the two rotors (9,11;7,13) is such as to draw rinsing fluid from the sump (3) of the collecting chamber (1) along the flow path (10) to the inlet boss (4). Any residual air content at commencement is subject to rotor precompression for ejection at the delivery orifice (5) ahead of first quantities of rinsing fluid.
