PAPER SURFACE TREATMENT

A paper surface treatment containing a high-molecular compound as the film-forming element prepared so as to allow coating or film formation. The high-molecular compound comprises wholly or mainly a C2-C18 carboxylic acid ester of starch with the degree of substitution (DS) of 1.0 to 3.0. This treatment not only serves to increase the tensile strength and burst strength of converted paper but also permits waste converted paper to be readily reclaimed on a conventional apparatus for reclaiming waste paper.
