The support element (7) which is fixable on the backrest of the seat, is vertically adjustable by a holder such as a plastics band (6) and has a height adjustable connection with this holder. The support element can have at least one detent cam for engaging at the required height in one of numerous recesses (6a) provided on the plastics band. The support element has flexible marginal zones to adapt to the contour of the backrest part (4). These zones can be formed by incisions (7f). The support element preferably has ribs on the side facing the backrest part. The holder and support element can be covered by a suitable material but with access to the height adjuster.
