A low energy x-ray detector has a vacuum chamber (10) provided, in two opposite side walls, with openings (11,12) fitted with sealing covers (13,14) between which an anode (16) and a cathode (15) are positioned. The novelty is that (a) the anode (16) is hollow and forms a frame; (b) the cathode (15) comprises a detection foil pref. of gold; and (c) the anode (16) or the cathode (15) is connected to an ultra-low noise ammeter (17).
