PURPOSE:To extremely increase nitrile hydratase per unit culture solution by cultivating a bacterium of the species rhodochrous of the genus Rhodococcus in the presence of urea and cobalt ion in a medium. CONSTITUTION:A bacterium [preferably Rhodococcus rhodochrous J-1 strain (FERM BP-1478)] belonging to the species rhodochrous of the genus Rhodococcus is cultivated in the presence of urea and cobalt ion in a medium to produce a cell of a bacterium having nitrile hydratase activity. The concentrations of urea and cobalt ion in the medium are preferably 1-30g/l and 5-15mg/l calculated as CoCl2, respectively. |
