The method makes use of an up/down counter and a disk eccentric value for searching for a target track of the optical disk driver. A CPU(10) calculates the number of tracks between the current head position and a target track, and set the calculated number to a track counter(40). If the optical head approaches to the target track, the CPU controls a down control port to decrease the counter value. When SM is a fine state, a multiplexer selects FD and generates the signal to execute a tracking actuator in a optical pickup module.
