Tool change system

A tool quick change system comprises a spindle having a drive plate 12 to which a cutter 10 is mounted. Co-operating drive means are provided on respective mounting faces of the drive plate 12 and the cutter 10 so that the cutter 10 is rotatable with the drive plate 12. A clamp bar 44 is provided to clamp the cutter 10 against the drive plate 12. Clearances in the cutter 10 which correspond with the clamp bar 44 in an unclamping position enable the cutter 10 to be removed from the drive plate 12. A spring 100 holds the clamp bar 44 in its clamping position. Centrifugally activated locking fingers 78 maintain the cutter clamped to the drive plate 12 even in the event of failure of the spring 100 which normally holds the clamp bar 44 in its clamping position.
