The engine incorporates a cylinder block (10) with at least one cylinder (12) and a piston (14) which is essentially rotation-symmetrical around a centre line through it. The piston moves forwards and backwards in the cylinder. A number of indicators (16) are radially arranged around the cylinder and work in conjunction with a contact-free manner with indication devices (36,40) carried by the piston. The indication devices have a predetermined constant length in relation to the piston centre line under normal operating conditions for the engine. The indication devices take the form of a rod of a material with an expansion coefficient which is lower than that of the piston. The rod is arranged along a piston radial line in an axial plane and is fixed to the piston in an area (37) on the centre line. The radial outwardly facing end of the rod is of a ferrite materia. |
