PURPOSE:To produce D-(+)-malic acid useful as a raw material for synthesis of an optically active compound useful, e.g. as an intermediate for synthesis of optically active isoserine, pantolactone and beta-lactam by allowing a specified microorganism or its treated material to act on maleic acid. CONSTITUTION:Maleic acid is treated with a microorganism belonging to Paracoccus, Protaminobacter, Serratia, Xanthomonas, Amycoplastopsis, Streptomyces, Rhodcoccus, Cellulomonas, Hafnia, Cytophaga, Flavobactfrium, Klebsiella, Micrococcus, Ancylobacter, Morganella, Planococcus, Kluyvera, Kurthia, Achromobacter, Citrobacter, Saccharomyces, Saccharomycopsis, Yarrowia, Candida, Debariomyces, Hansenula, Aspergillus, Penicillium, Rhizopus, etc., or a treated material thereof. D-(+)-malic acid having a highly optical purity can be produced with industrial advantage. |
