PURPOSE:To obtain high-strength and high-elastic modulus heat-resistant inorganic fiber by spinning a specific polymetallocarbosilane, halogenating the resultant fiber, infusibilizing the halogenated fiber and then baking the infusibilized fiber at a high temperature. CONSTITUTION:This method for producing heat-resistant inorganic fiber is to spin a polymetallocarbosilane in which at least a part of Si in an organosilicon polymer substantially composed of a main skeleton having a structural unit expressed by formulas I and II (R<1> to R<4> are independently each H, a lower alkyl or phenyl and any one thereof is H) is bound directly or through O to Ti or Zr, heat the resultant spun fiber from a temperature between ambient temperature and 200 deg.C to 40-300 deg.C at 1-50 deg.C/hr, preferably 4-30 deg.C/hr heating rate in an atmosphere of an inert gas containing Cl, Br or I, convert 10-70% of Si-H bonds into Si-halogen bonds, heat the prepared halogenated fiber at 200-500 deg.C in an atmosphere of the inert gas or a vacuum, carry out the infusibilization by cross-linking of Si-Si bonds and then bake the infusibilized fiber at a high temperature in an atmosphere of the inert gas or a reducing gas. |
