PURPOSE:To adapt a cooling apparatus for a narrow space by decreasing the amount of a cooling medium to be used, by a method wherein cooling medium vapor stored in one gastight chamber is adsorbed with adsorbent stored in the other gastight chamber when an opening-and-shutting valve is opened, and cooling is done by latent heat at the time when the cooling medium is allowed to evaporate. CONSTITUTION:A cooling apparatus 1 is, for example, used for cooling of a reaction vessel 2 by which an experiment on crystal growth under a gravity-free state is done in an artificial satellite. In order that the reaction vessel 2 is cooled, first, a cooling medium 3 is stored in a tank 4a in a first gastight chamber 4 and an adsorbent 6 is stored in a second gastight chamber 7, following which a solenoid valve 13 on a line provided between them is opened and both of the gastight chambers 4, 7 are decompressed by a vacuum pump 15. After that, the vacuum pump 15 is removed, the solenoid valve 13 is shut, and the cooling apparatus 1 is installed in the artificial satellite. The solenoid valve 13 is opened, and the coiling medium 3 is allowed to evaporate and is adsorbed with the adsorbent 6. In this way, the reaction vessel 2 is cooled by latent heat of evaporation, through a cold plate 8. |
