The chimney unit, assembled from prefabricated components, consists of an internal length of flue tube, an external sheath made of concrete, and intervening heat insulation. This insulation is made up from a number of segments of cylindrical shell, building up a complete shell when assembled, loosely inserted, so as to allow for radial play, into the circular gap between the inner tube and the outer sheath. The heat insulation may form a part element in conjunction with the outer sheath. The heat insulation may form a part element in conjunction with the outer sheath with the inner tubing mounted loosely inside. Part or the whole of the insulation, which may be of corrugated asbestos board, may serve as lost internal formwork for the concrete in the sheath. |
