PETROLEUM DECOMPOSING MATERIAL AND PETROLEUM REMOVING METHOD USING THE SAME

PURPOSE:To enable coping with large bulk of a petroleum effluent and to efficiently decompose and remove the petroleum by floating a petroleum decomposing material obtained by depositing petroleum decomposing microorganisms and its nutrient source on a water floatable supporting body on a water surface contaminated with petroleum to act the petroleum decomposing microorganisms on the petroleum. CONSTITUTION:This petroleum decomposing material is constituted by depositing the petroleum decomposing microorganisms (e.g. hydrocarbon decomposable marine yeast SIEW1 strain) and the nutrient source (e.g. urea) on the water floatable supporting body (e.g. expanded polystyrene). Then, the petroleum decomposing material is floated on a water surface contaminated with petroleum to act the petroleum decomposing microorganisms on the petroleum. The petroleum decomposing microorganisms decompose and remove efficiently the petroleum floating on the water surface such as a marine surface without undesirable influence on marine organisms. This petroleum decomposing material is small in specific gravity, so that the material absorbs a floated petroleum floating on the water surface and decomposes and removes the floating petroleum.
