发明名称 Improvements relating to the Metal Cladding of Metals.
摘要 1,171,830. Welding by pressure; making bearings. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. 19 June, 1967 [1 Aug., 1966], No. 28086/67. Headings B3A, B3Q and B3R. [Also in Divisions C7 and F2] Tin, bismuth, selenium, thallium or other metal is applied to a metal base by placing a body of it on a metal screen over the base and detonating a charge of explosive to melt it and drive it through the screen on to the base, which it wets and forms a layer thereon. Preferably the initial body of coating metal is from 0À010 to 0À025 inch thick and the screen from 0À015 to 0À045 inch thick and the explosive, which may be pentaerythitoltetranitrate (PETN) has the same area as the initial body of coating metal. When the explosive is detonated the surface of the base is deformed by its force and an irregular surface with a layer of the coating metal on it results. A further layer of metal may be emplaced on the irregular, coated surface. For example, a steel bearing shell may have a mesh of copper, aluminium or iron placed over it and tin foil fastened over the edge. Detonation of a sheet of PETN distorts the surface of the steel and coats it with tin. The mesh is then removed and bearing metal is applied to the coated surface by centrifugal casting. A bearing which has become damaged or must be replaced can be retinned by use of the invention, the process being repeated stepwise with some overlap around the inner circumference of the shell.
