A pair of steel or other metal sheets are handled by a continuous conveyor and brought in to contact with a sheet of polymer material interposed between them. Pressure is then applied to the resulting sandwich of materials, and they are heated to cause partial fusion of the polymeric layer, binding the three layers together integrally. The polymer material is typically ethylene vinyl acetate. The polymer sheet may be formed with a cellular or perforated structure, for example by pre-extrusion. The arrangement is such that at least one surface of the polymer sheet, adjacent to one of the inner surfaces of the metal sheets, defines a series of filaments attaching themselves to the metal surface.
