PURPOSE:To obtain a material for permanent magnet having high magnetic characteristics of CuAu type structure without using rare-earth elements by constituting a body-centered tetragonal structure in which part of the Pt of CoPt and part of the Pd of CoPd are replaced by Fe. CONSTITUTION:A material for permanent magnet has a body-centered tetragonal structure containing Fe, Co, and M (M: at least one element selected out of Pd and Pt) and embracing Fe and M at its body-centered position as a main phase. The material has a composition of CoFe1-xMx (where, 0.2<=x<=0.9), an axis of easy magnetization along its c-axis, and the magnetic anisotropy energy of crystal of >=10<5>J/m<3> at room temperature. When the material is synthesized in such a composition, a permanent magnet having excellent magnetic characteristics can be obtained without using expensive rare-earth elements having an oxidation problem. |
