PURPOSE:To provide a battery charger which can prevent insufficient charging of a battery due to the variation of the current consumption of a main body device and can safely, surely, and quickly charge the battery. CONSTITUTION:A battery charger is provided with a first battery voltage detecting means which monitors the changing state of the terminal voltage of a battery 21 and informs a control circuit 11 of the detected results and a second battery voltage detecting means which detects that the terminal voltage becomes an abnormal voltage higher than a fixed value and informs the circuit 11 of the detected results. The detection of the abnormal voltage by means of the second battery voltage detecting means is always performed and the monitoring of the terminal voltage by means of the first battery voltage detecting device is temporarily stopped when the terminal voltage temporarily drops due to the increase of the current consumption of a main body device 24. Therefore, the erroneous detection of the completion of changing or insufficient charging resulting front the variation of the current consumption of the device 24 can be prevented and the battery 21 can be charged safely, surely, and quickly.
