PURPOSE:To prevent the defective carrying of a transfer material and the surface damage of both a photoreceptor and an intermediate transfer belt due to rubbing between the photoreceptor and the intermediate transfer belt in an OHP mode without switching the circumferential speed of the photoreceptor in the case of selecting the OHP mode where a fixing speed becomes lower for a color copying device using the intermediate transfer belt. CONSTITUTION:As for a toner image of a final color which is superposed on the intermediate transfer belt 19, the circumferential speed of the belt 19 is switched to a comparatively lower fixing and carrying speed just after the end of transferring the image to the belt 19. The belt 19 is separated from a photoreceptor 9 in synchronism with the switch. The length of the transfer material is compared with a distance LF between a paper transfer area and a fixing part, and in the case that the transfer material is a shorter one as the result of the comparison, it is permitted not to switch the circumferential speed of the belt 19 to a low speed. |
