PURPOSE:To ensure dehumidifying operation in a wide temperature range from slight cooling to slight heating by providing a cooling part, a dehumidifying part, and a heating part in an indoor heat exchanger, and controlling the amount of air of an outdoor heat exchanger and capability of a compressor, etc., upon defrosting operation. CONSTITUTION:An air conditioner includes a two-way valve 5 provided parallely with a min throttle device 4 and permitting a refrigerant to flow there through upon defrosting operation, and a defrosting throttle device 7 provided between halved indoor heat exchangers 6a, 6b in series thereto and permitting a refrigerant to flow therethrough upon defrosting operation. It further includes a two-way valve 8 provided in parallel to the defrosting throttle device between the indoor heat exchangers 6a, 6b and permitting a refrigerant to flow therethrough upon cooling and heating operation. In defrosting operation, the two-way valve 5 is opened and the two-way valve 8 is closed, and air is subjected to cooling and defrosting by the indoor heat exchanger 6b, and thereafter the air is heated by the indoor heat exchanger 6a and is blown out into a room. Capabilities of the evaporator 6a and the heater 6a are adjusted by controlling capabilities of the compressor 1, an indoor fan 12, and an outdor fan 10.
