摘要 PURPOSE:To improve color compensation performance and visual angle characteristics by specifying the tilt angle of the compensation plate to a specific value range. CONSTITUTION:This compensation plate 12 for a liquid crystal display element consists substantially of a transparent substrate and an orientation immobilized liquid crystalline high polymer formed on this transparent substrate. The orientation of this liquid crystalline high polymer is the twist tilt orientation with which the average value of the angle formed by the director of the liquid crystalline high polymer and the substrate surface is specified to 3 to 85 deg. and the projecting component of the director of the liquid crystalline high polymer to the substrate surface rotates continuously in a film thickness direction. Namely, this compensation plate 12 is characterized by specifying its tilt angle to the range from 3 to 85 deg.. The tilt angle is more preferably a range from 5 to 80 deg.. The orientation is substantially the same as homogeneous orientation and homeotropic orientation and the desired free control of three-dimensional optical characteristics is no more possible if the tilt angle is smaller than 3 deg. or larger than 85 deg..
