The container has four perpendicular side walls (1-4) which have flaps (10-13) attached to their base along fold lines. These can be folded perpendicular to the side walls to form the base of the container. The flaps are positioned as pairs either internally or externally. One of the external base flaps (13) has two openings (16) which receive two tabs (14) of the second external flap (12). Each tab has a rectilinear fold line (15) which allows one part (14a) of the tab to be folded with respect to another part. The dimensions of the openings and tabs prevent the tabs passing through the openings after having been folded in position. The internal flaps are forced into contact with the external flaps under the weight of the contents of the container.
