A method and a device are described for generating a pulsed radiation beam 8 with a required frequency. A resonator 4 which resonantly generates the required frequency in response to the reception of a pulsed pump beam 3 through the conversion of the radiation frequency f1 of the pump beam is used for this purpose. According to the invention, an improved conversion efficiency is achieved by adding an auxiliary beam 12 to the resonator 4 with a frequency which is suitable for ensuring that the resonator 4 returns to an oscillation condition whenever a radiation pulse from the pump beam 3 reaches the resonator 4. <IMAGE>
