The remote controller for use with a range of electronic equipment, has a base unit (2) with a carrier plate (19) supported on a pivot pin (32). The carrier plate is mounted above a circuit board (5). At the end of the plate is an actuator (12) that is in the form of a roller. When turned by applying finger pressure the roller courses a series of pulses to be generated that are received by the built in circuit (18). When pressed down a command is transmitted by infra red emitters (13).
