Viscose is prepared by homogeneously mixing together cellulose xanthate and an aqueous alkali solution, both of which have been separately frozen and comminuted into freeflowing particles, followed by thawing to allow the intermixed materials to interact and form a homogeneous viscose composition. The particles may be made by conventional grinding, using dry ice as an adjuvant to maintain the low temperature. The dry ice is evaporated before mixing and thawing. Viscose so prepared may be regenerated into films.</p> |
