The proposed method of determining atmospheric content involves alternate illumination of the atmospheric sector under observation with linearly and circularly polarised radar pulses, determination of the ratio of received signal to receiver noise and subsequent calculation of the radar reflectivity Zl of the observed sector with regard to the linearly polarized pulses and of the radar reflectivity Zk of the same sector with regard to the circularly polarized pulses, as well as of their ratio K = Zl/Zk. The values of Zl, Zk, and K are indicators of the presence or absence of radioactive pollutants in the atmosphere. The proposed device for putting this process into effect comprises: a transmitter with a triggering unit; a circulator; an antenna; a standardized signal generator; and (connected in series) a receiver, a gating unit, an analogue-digital converter, an integrator, a computer processor, and a polarizer with control unit. Also included is a synchronisation unit, one output of which is connected to the polarizer control unit input, while the second output is connected to the second input of the gating unit and the third output is connected to the transmitter triggering unit input. The invention facilitates the detection of radioactive pollutants in the atmosphere at great distances.
|
