[Also in Division E1] A facing panel for a wall, floor, or ceiling comprises tiles 2 or mosaic chips adhesively secured to a backing sheet 1 so as to leave uncovered isolated parts 3 and preferably also parts such as shown at 4 adjacent a panel edge. The parts 4 may be at the corners of the panel only, or continuous on two or four edges. Panels are secured to a wall &c. by screws passing through the uncovered parts, these parts then being covered by tiles which at the edge or corner of the panel may each overlap on to one or three adjacent panels. The backing sheet 1 may be of various sheet materials including plywood, metal, and precast concrete, and may be rabbeted at its edges. The tiles are of glass, metal, wood, or plastics. The backing sheet 1 has an insulating sheet of expanded plastics material on its rear face and its front face is sealed with a silicone liquid before the tile adhesive is applied. |
