Semi=trailer coupling with safety=catch release

The coupling has a claw securing a kingpin and an actuating rod automatically releasing the catch. The rod (102) has a handle (108), top and bottom sections and a coupling section, also a shaped segment joining the bottom and coupling sections together. It passes through an opening in an edge (44) on the coupling (24), the coupling section extending through a passage formed by a lever coupled to the claw. The top rod section is mounted on the bottom one near the coupling and has a first ramp face at one end, there being a second one on the catch, which pivots on the outside edge surface and engages with the rod. On moving the latter, the ramp faces bear against each other and swing the catch into the release position. At the same time the rod is turned os that its top section can pass through the edge opening and hold the catch in the free position.
