Area element with a three-dimensional regionally coated microstructure

The proposal is for a surface component, especially for use as a safety feature for a valuable document or the like, having a micro-structure (3, 14) in which essentially only the projecting regions (6) of the micro-structure have a coating (4, 15), e.g. a reflective metal layer. Local application of the micro-structure only in the projecting regions is made possible by the suitably oblique irradiation or vapour-deposition of particles of the coating material.
