The housing (10) contains sound-absorption plates, sliding over the engine portion via a lateral opening. The flexible components (61-65) at the opening bear against the vehicle. A sound-absorbing plate (40) forming a floor can be joined to the cowl, and there can be sound-dampening curtain (20,22) between the cowl and the ground. Each sound-absorption plate can comprise, in succession from the side furthest from the sound source, a support plate, sound-absorbent material, a sound-permeable sheet, and a perforated cover plate. The perforations in the latter can account for at least 30% of the surface area.
