Adjustment of camshaft relative to crankshaft

A device to rotate a camshaft with respect to a crankshaft in a car has a correcting element controlled by an electrical signal, a camshaft sensor system which evaluates the instantaneous camshaft position and a control unit which outputs a required angle based on engine parameters. It calculates the difference between actual and required angles and the result is the basis of the camshaft adjustment. However, the signal is first multiplied by two correction factors, one derived from a simple function of the oil temperature and speed, the other from a more complex function of the same parameters.
