Air bag assembly system having several strap elements (31 32) arranged in a hub section (33) around the inflation opening (25), as well as several more straps (35) which project outwards from the hub areas. The hub section straps overlap each other and are secured to the rear side (23) of the air bag (21) in such a way that they define a circular region around the inflation opening. The far ends (35a) of the projecting straps are secured to the circumferential sections of an octagonal gripper (37) arranged within the air bag.
