The hearing test device has a sound storage unit (4) which stores different sound events. These can be selectively called up in the form of electronic signals. A loud speaker unit (8,9) is connected to the storage unit (4) to make the electric signals output from the storage device (4) audible. A test device (10) has an ear piece, a microphone and an amplifier. An operating and control unit (2) sets and varies acoustic operating parameters of the test device (10), such as the type of amplification, degree of amplification, frequency steps and output noise pressure level. To test a person's hearing, part of the test device (10) is inserted in the ear passage. Different sound events are acoustically generated and optically displayed. The acoustic parameters of the test device (10) are varied until the most natural sound pressure is received for the most sound events and an optimal speech ratio is achieved. The test device (10) is replaced by a prepared hearing aid with the derived acoustic parameters.
