An automatic resuscitator which can be held and controlled by one hand is disclosed. The device can operate in three different modes - an automatic timed mode for the treatment of a patient who is not breathing which can change automatically to a demand mode when the patient commences natural inspiratory effort and a manual mode. The manual mode overrides the automatic mode to allow use of the resuscitator by a trained paramedic. The resuscitator attaches directly to a face mask using gas outlet connection 16 and the controls 18, 20 are in a housing 12 which can be held in one hand so that the other hand is left free to assist in keeping the patient's airway clear. <IMAGE> |
