The collector consists of a circle (1) of a biodegradable mesh material having a hole (2) in the middle for the trunk of the tree, and draw strings (4,5) passing through hems or holes in the edge of the circle, allowing it to be closed in the form of a bag when pulled in opposite directions. When the tree is placed on a round table, the collector can be used as a cover for the table and the draw strings fastened underneath it. The collector catches any needles which fall from the tree while it is indoors, and when the tree has to be removed the collector is pulled up and the draw strings tensioned to enclose the tree completely. The collector can also be used to reduce the volume of a tree during transport and sale.
