METHOD OF PRE-TREATING PEAT FOR USE IN BIOFILTERS FOR WASTEWATER TREATMENT AND USE THEREOF

Disclosed is a method of pre-treating peat for use in a biofilter for wastewater treatment, wherein said peat is mixed with a pre-determined concentration of a Cacontaining compound or an equivalent thereof and a predetermined concentration of a Fe-containing compound or an equivalent thereof. When used in a biofilter the mixture of peat that is so obtained and contains a iron-containing compound and a Ca-containing compound, preferably lime, allows efficient elimination of total phosphorus and color in the effluent water from the very first day of the treatment.
