PURPOSE:To obtain the fluid which shows a markedly increased viscosity and large shear stress upon application of a low-consumption weak electric field by dispersing cycldextrin in an electrical insulating liquid. CONSTITUTION:An excellent electroviscous fluid is obtained by dispersing, for example, about 25-35wt.% cyclodextrin composed of 6-12 glucose units bonded through alpha-1,4-bonds to form a ring in an electrical insulating liquid such as silicone oil. This fluid can show a large electroviscous effect even in a relatively weak electric field and enables an electroviscous effect to be controlled at a low electrical consumption. |
