PURPOSE:To provide an exhaust gas purifying catalyst having excellent exhaust gas purifying performance even after being exposed to high temps. of a wide range extending from the stoichiometric region to lean region. CONSTITUTION:A catalyst layer consisting of the inorg. material consisting essentially of the activated alumina contg. >=1 kind of noble metal among platinum, palladium and rhodium is provided on a honeycomb carrier, and a catalsyt, wherein platinum and sufur coexist on a porous carrier, is furnished thereon.
