PURPOSE: To remarkably reduce vertical motion exerting a bad influence on the steady motion of a piston by reducing the total length of a compressor in the piston compressor. CONSTITUTION: This piston compressor includes at least one cylinder 11 and a piston 10 which is guided in noncontact with the inner wall of the cylinder 11 in the cylinder 11 and connected to a crosshead 6 through a piston rod 8. The piston rod is formed by a pipe 8 extending between the cross head 6 and the piston 10. In the pipe 8, extended is a tension rod 9 which can be extended by a hydraulic stretching device 30 and pull the crosshead 6 and the piston 10 toward the pipe 8 under pre-pressure. |
