Telephone receivers, and a microphone if required, are carried on the side frames of spectacles so that the receivers are adjacent the entrance to the ear when the side supports rest on the ears. The receiver housing may be detachably and/or resiliently secured to the side frame, or the receiver housing may be incorporated in the side frame with an ear hanger adjustably attached to the side frame, A transmitter may be hung from one side frame and the side frame may include a receiver for an inductively radiated television sound programme, or for broadcast television, or radio, sound programmes. Fig. 3 shows housings 2, containing transducers, resiliently and adjust. ably attached to the spectacle side supports 4, with one housing supporting a microphone 6 adjacent the mouth of the wearer, via support 7. Elastomeric material may be detachably secured to the housing to seal the transducer to the ear. Fig. 7 shows an embodiment with the ear supports 25 adjustably secured to the transducer housing 21 which is hinged to the spectacle front 23. Fig. 19 shows an embodiment in which the side supports 52 fork to provide a transducer housing section 52a and an ear hanger section 52b, the sections crossing and arranged so that the housing section 52a resiliently engages the ear. The diaphragm of the transducer may be arranged behind a slot 54, Fig. 20, in the housing wall with a slidable member 55 engaging the slots 60 in the housing member so that the member 55 may be positioned with the hole 56 opposite the entrance to the ear of any wearer. A pad of elastomeric material is arranged over the member 55 to seal the transducer to the ear. Fig. 21 shows an embodiment in which the transducer housing 52c is decorated to simulate a flower and is connected to the side frame by a resilient and adjustable coiled wire member 52d. Connections between the transducers at each side may be made via the hinges connecting the side frames to the front frame and via wires embedded in the front frame. The side frames may incorporate appropriate circuitry and controls, the knobs of which have edges protruding through the top edge of the frame and the two transducers may be connected to give binaural or directional effects. |
