Heading D1C To increase the number of pattern wheels a cylinder and dial knitting machine has cylinder needles 26 provided with upper and lower butts 27, 29, the lower butt 29 being acted on by a raise cam 34 which lifts the needles so that the upper butts are in the range of a pattern wheel 24 arranged with large bits 30 to raise the needles to knitting height, small bits 32 to raise the needles to tucking height or has no bits so that the needles pass freely through the pattern wheel, the needles raised by bits being lowered by a cam 38 acting on the lower butts and the needles not being raised being lowered to welting height by a cam 40 again acting on the lower butts. |
