A bullet trap with a passageway (13) defined between flat upper and lower boundary walls (13a, 13b) extending convergingly, at opposite angles of inclination of between O DEG and about 15 DEG to the horizontal, from an entrance opening (13c) to an exit opening or throat (13d), and a deceleration chamber (15) having a circumferential boundary wall of generally spiral configuration and provided in its upper region with an inlet opening (15b) and in its lower region with a discharge opening (15a) leading to a collecting vessel (17). The circumferential boundary wall of the chamber is constituted by two oppositely concave channel-shaped members (23, 24) the respective upper end regions (23b, 24a) of which are spaced from each other to define the inlet opening, and the respective lower end regions (23a, 24b) of which are spaced from each other to define the discharge opening. Bullets fired into the passageway enter the chamber at its upper region substantially tangentially of the chamber via the directly adjacent throat and inlet opening.
