Leather football with rubber cover retains shape plays better and keeps water out. G1-. Inflatable etc., ball with leather skin coated with an elastomer outer layer pref. having a max. thickness of 0.25 mm. The oil and fat content of the leather used for the ball should not exceed 12% by wt.. The elastomer used may be a natural or synthetic rubber applied to the segments of leather which are then stitched up into the ball to bring the rubber liner to the top. The inside of the leather should be roughened prior to applying the rubber and should be treated with a solution of rubber in a volatile organic solvent. Additionally the rubber may contain a solution or dispersion of natural or synthetic rubber so that when air reaches the mass after the coating procedure, the moisture is forcibly evaporated from it, thus vulcanising the elastomer liner inside the ball. |
