WHEELCHAIR DRIVER AND BRAKING SYSTEM

A wheelchair driver (10) mountable to a horizontal frame extension (70) of a wheelchair (100) between a wheel (120) and the wheelchair's frame (110). The driver (10) is mounted directly to a spindle sleeve (80) fastened to the horizontal frame extension (70) which provides a race for the driver (10) to run upon. The driver (10) has a lever (40) extending upward from the spindle sleeve (80) above the tire (130) of the wheel (120). A handle (20) is provided on the uppermost end for a user. The lever (40) has a pawl (50) extending over the tire (130) of the wheel (120). The pawl (50) has teeth (53) on a lower surface and contacts against the tire (130). Brake pads (60) on the lever (40), adjacent the rims (140) of the wheels (120), are forcible against the rims (140).
