Container filling level measuring system

The filling level measuring system determines the distance between several points (13) across the surface (111) of the container contents (11) and a reference point and uses them to provide a 3-dimensional surface profile of the contents. The volume of the contents, or the space remaining within the container are calculated from the obtained surface profile and the known container geometry. Pref. the highest and lowest filling levels, the filling distribution and/or the filling rate are also calculated. The container geometry may be determined in the same way as the contents surface geometry when the container is empty.
