The upright display panel includes a display band which is carried between two rollers (50A, 50B) mounted horizontally near the top and bottom of the casing. The rollers are driven intermittently by an electric motor (35) via a gear mechanism. A single motor turning at constant speed drives a toothed pinion (41) engaging a further gear (43) which drives toothed pulleys on the ends of the two rollers. A tensioning device (500) is provided to ensure that the band carrying the display remains taut, and also to compensate for the difference in speed of the two rollers as their outside diameter changes.
