Disclosed herein is a magnetic recording medium comprising a nonmagnetic substrate, a magnetic thin film layer on said substrate, and a lubricant layer on said magnetic layer, wherein said lubricant layer contains a compound having the formula: RN<+>H3O<->OCRf1 wherein R is a hydrocarbon group which has three or more carbon atoms, and Rf1 is a perfluoropolyether group. This magnetic recording medium has a low coefficient of friction and shows improved wear resistance and durability.
