1,186,906. Froth flotation. SOC. DE PRODUITS CHIMIQUES D'AUBY. 8 May, 1967 [11 May, 1966], No. 21211/67. Heading B2H. In a method of up-grading minerals or ores having a calcareous and/or dolomitic gangue by froth flotation of the minerals to be recovered, there is added to the flotation medium a modifying agent acting on the gangue and comprising a water-soluble polymer of acrylic acid having a molecular weight of less than 10,000 and an average Brooksfield viscosity index of between 5 and 500 centipoises at 25‹C. The modifying agent has the general formula: in which R is H or CH 3 , X is H or a cation which may be inorganic, e.g. Li, Na, K or NH 4 , or organic, and n is an integer. The method is applicable to the flotation of oxidised ores of Cu, Pb or Zn which may be first treated by sulphuration. The modifying agent may be added to the flotation medium during the course of, or before flotation. Examples are given in which sodium hydrosulphide is used as sulphuration agent, potassium amyl-xanthate as collector and pine oil, gas oil and cresylic acid as foaming agents.
|
