A rotary hydrostatic bearing comprises angularly-spaced, angularly-elongated inlet restrictors 6a in which the sum of the angular elongations e of those ends 6b which open on to the bearing surface is a major part of the circumference on which they lie. Lubricant is fed from an annular channel 7. The inlet restrictors are formed by milling or grinding grooves in the radial face of a bearing element (2b), (Fig. 1, not shown), which abuts the radial face of a further element (2a) to which it is locked.
